Indigenous Student Leadership Summit – May 7-8
The SD 22 (Vernon) Indigenous Education team is excited to host the 2026 OMRIE (Okanagan Mainline Regional Indigenous Education) Indigenous Youth Summit. This is the fourth annual youth-led summit and has been an amazing experience and opportunity for Indigenous students at RSS. Each year about 150 students gather from eleven school districts across the southern interior of British Columbia. This year the theme is Indigenous Health and Well-Being. An evening gathering of food and storytelling will start the event on May 7th. Please let Ms England know if you are interested in attending the Summit this year. We will host lunch meetings leading up to the event on April 16, 23, and 30 in Room 207. Lunch will be provided.
Spring Family Gathering and Milestone Ceremony
Planning has begun for the Spring Family Gathering in June. Please let us know if you would like to be on the Planning Committee. The first planning meeting will be Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 at the School Board office.
UBC Indigenous Summer Scholars and Leadership camps
Applications now open for July 2026! Click here to see website
Indigenous Programs & Services at UBC Okanagan hosts two annual overnight summer camps for Indigenous youth:
Indigenous Summer Scholars Camp: Grades 7 to 9
Indigenous Summer Leadership Camp: Grades 10 to 12
These programs aim to provide the next generation of Indigenous leaders with opportunities to build their interest in post-secondary education, connect with other students in a fun and interactive environment, and increase their ability to act as leaders in their communities and schools. Each of these programs is designed in a holistic way that incorporates physical, mental, social, and cultural programming.
Indigenous Summer Scholars Camp and Indigenous Summer Leadership Camp are free, overnight, multi-day programs that include all food, accommodations, events, and programming. However, the cost of travel to and from these camps is not covered.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful Spring Break. The Indigenous Support Staff are looking forward to focusing on Spring plants during recess and lunch time activities in April.
