Weyt-k (Greetings in Secwepemctsin – pronounced Why-t-k),
Way̓ (Greetings in Nsyilxen – pronounced like the word why),
Kiʔsuʔk kyukyit (Greetings in Ktunaxa – pronounced kyi-suk kyu-kyit with a hard k sound),
We are excited to introduce you to the Indigenous Education Student Support staff members. They have been busy reaching out to connect with Indigenous students and their families and are very much looking forward to supporting Indigenous students culturally, socially, and academically this coming year.
Indigenous Self-Identification
Any student with Indigenous ancestry can self-identify, meaning that status cards and other forms of official documents are not required. Each year we are required to confirm that Indigenous families consent to receive enhanced supports (cultural, academic, social & emotional). The Indigenous Education Department plans their supports and activities based on the number of self-identified Indigenous students in the district. Parents can use the consent form on this website to give consent for support and services at anytime, or can reach out to their school Principal, or Jodi Wallach, District Principal of Indigenous Education and K-12 Wellbeing, to get more information. Things To Look Forward To This Year
- Winter Family Gathering – luncheon for all Indigenous students and their families

- Spring Family Gathering
- Milestone Ceremony to recognize and celebrate incoming Kindergarten students, students transitioning to the high school, and graduates
- Secwepemc, Ktunaxa, Syilx Okanagan, and Sinixt Elders and Knowledge Holder visits
- Seasonal Programming will see a focus on Phenology this year. Phenology is the deep observational knowledge that Indigenous peoples hold about the timing of natural events – like plant flowering, animal migrations, or seasonal changes.
